Landed in Glasgow

We made it – after what amounted to essentially two days in airports, on planes and buses, we’re here. So far the theme of our trip has been thunder, lightening and rain storms. We left Marathon in a downpour, we landed in Toronto in a lightening and rain storm (the passengers on the plane who screamed every time we hit turbulence did not help…) and it was raining this morning when we arrived. Regardless, the rain in Glasgow was warm and soft, and it has since given way to a beautiful sunny day.

George Street Party

Well here’s some news – George danced in public last night! We were part of the world’s largest “strip the willow” on George’s Street, along with several other tourists and lots of kilted locals. Considering there were thousands of people there, it was amazing how organized it was. It all started on the “Mound” below the Castle, where hundreds of people joined ceremonial piping regiments in a parade up to George’s street, followed by five or six Catalan drum and piping bands, and actors and dancers in Catalan festival costume.

- then catch our flight to London at 8:55 getting in the next day at 9:05am

Its going to be a long day.
Heading To Florence

We’re in Venice – it’s stinking hot here, but we’re having a great time. We finally made it to the Santa Maria Gloriosa church this morning. It’s only taken us three trips to Venice to hit one of it’s major attractions, and it was worth it. The mausoleums of the artists Titian and Canova are in there, and they are incredibly impressive. The enormous sleeping winged lion in front of the entrance to Canova’s mausoleum, and the huge black marble slaves holding up the artifice of one of the Doge’s mausoleum were worth the price of entry. (Not to mention the black marble life-size sculptures of mummified screaming skeletons as harbingers of death… it’s enough to scare anybody into repenting.)
