Finally in Innsbruck

After two days of travel to get here, we have arrived. We spent the day in London yesterday, just bumming around the markets and fashionable streets before taking off to Salzburg.

Pfiesherhutte

Great hike today, despite the fact we got soaked in the end. I’m tired, it’s late, so here’s the day’s summary as I sit in bed listening to the rain.

Scheduled hike was the Nockspitz, but Martin didn’t have the keys to the room to lend people boots, so he was going to take them for a walk. George, Peter and I decided to go up the Innsbruck Nordkette and hike to Pfiesherhutte, then down to Azler Alm.

Hiking in rainy Innsbruck

Hey!
We´ve been here for 4 days now, and there hasn´t been a day without rain, but that hasn´t waned our enthusiasm for the most beautiful place on earth. You just can´t complain about the weather when everywhere you look there are breathtaking mountain vistas, lush green valleys with glacial streams and waterfalls, and old growth forests to hike in. We visibly, and palpably relax here, like we´ve come home. As much as any other place I´ve lived, Innsbruck feels like home, and I suppose when the waitress at our favorite restaurant here remembers us from summer to summer, and brings us our usual drinks as soon as we sit down, it reinforces that feeling.

We have just finished our first hike. It was a rainy day hike in the mountains around Innsbruck. The hike was wet but over all was very good. The guide took us about 20 mins west of Innsbruck and we walked back to town, got back around 2:00pm.

Arrived In Frankfurt

We´re in Frankfurt at the gambling saloon in the train station writing email. It stinks like cigarette smoke in here. We´re staying at a little pension run by Oriental immigrants who don´t speak German or English, but we can communicate anyways. It´s a great day to just sit in cafes and drink coffee and watch the world go by – you really have no other choice on Sunday in Europe – they still close everything down here. It´s a nice change of pace from North America – you have no choice but to relax.
