Leaving Edinburgh…

Hi!
We’ve been on the most amazing tour of the Iles of Mull, Staffa & Iona…it was fantastic!

We’ve spent the last two days in Edinburgh, and now we’re off to the lowlands …I’ll add more details to this later when I’m not running out of time!

We’ve spent the last few days motoring around in the smallest possible stick-shift car we could rent, and it was worth it, despite stalling once in front of an oncoming transport – it was fine…

Inverness…

We’ve been in Inverness for the last two days, taking a bit of a break from all the walking we did over the past week (George has a pretty big blister on his heel…)The last day of our hike we passed several police officers out in the woods about 7 km from Inverness, taping off obscure sections. It seems there was a female hiker attacked on the route two days before we arrived, and she’s in the hospital. It was a little alarming, but we were too tired to react too much.

We made it!

We finished hiking the Great Glen yesterday – all the way from Fort William to Inverness. We’re so tired that we can’t think of too many brilliant things to say – today we’re just going to goof off.

The last two days of hiking took us past several old crofter’s farms and ancient drover’s roads. Many of the trails were also on logging roads of the kind we would see at home – funny, you don’t associate Scotland with logging, as they cut down all the forests with the Clearances.

Now we’re in Fort Augustus…

Another day of walking down! We left the hostel this morning and set out across paths on privately owned estates, full of old train throughway’s, sheep grazing everywhere (be careful not to step in too much sheep poo!), musical burns, old walls that make you wonder who built them so long ago, swans in every waterway, and trees that remind you of the Ents in Lord Of The Rings.Wow – that was a very poorly constructed sentence, but I don’t care…
