Pfiesherhutte

Great hike today, despite the fact we got soaked in the end. I’m tired, it’s late, so here’s the day’s summary as I sit in bed listening to the rain.
Scheduled hike was the Nockspitz, but Martin didn’t have the keys to the room to lend people boots, so he was going to take them for a walk. George, Peter and I decided to go up the Innsbruck Nordkette and hike to Pfiesherhutte, then down to Azler Alm.

Hey!
We’ve been hiking in Munich for the last three days, and wee lucked out with the weather, the routes and our guides. The scenery has been spectacular – glacier blue waterfalls and mountain streams, great granite peaks and old growth forests all sprinkled with quaint little alpine villages, tiny ancient chapels in the woods, and alpine huts and alms with great food.
Westfallen Haus Hike

Great hike out to Westfallen Haus today. Martin was much better behaved. I heard a rumor that someone complained about him to the tourist office about yesterday.
The glacier was actually white because of the snow that fell 2 days ago, so it was beautiful, but the volume of water in the waterfall was far less than last year when it crashed down the mountain sending up a 30m spray laced with rainbows.

Beautiful hike on the Patscherkiffel along trails very similar to those in the Tatras Mountains on the Slovak side, lots of stone steps along precipices and wild flowers everywhere below the tree line. Fresh snow was still evident from a sprinkling last night.
Hiking in rainy Innsbruck

Hey!
We´ve been here for 4 days now, and there hasn´t been a day without rain, but that hasn´t waned our enthusiasm for the most beautiful place on earth. You just can´t complain about the weather when everywhere you look there are breathtaking mountain vistas, lush green valleys with glacial streams and waterfalls, and old growth forests to hike in. We visibly, and palpably relax here, like we´ve come home. As much as any other place I´ve lived, Innsbruck feels like home, and I suppose when the waitress at our favorite restaurant here remembers us from summer to summer, and brings us our usual drinks as soon as we sit down, it reinforces that feeling.
