Summer 2008

Well Noel and I are starting to plan our summer trip. This year we are planning to go back to Turkey and visit several areas we missed the first time we were there, like Cappadocia, Mount Nemrut, Sumela Monastery, and a few others. We also want to revisit some of the places we were the first time and catch up with friends we have there. From Turkey we are planning to travel the Greek Islands and then up the Adriatic coast to Innsbruck, Austria. We plan to stop off in Montenegro, Dubrovnik (Bosnia and Herzegovina), and Split (Croatia) along the way.
Day 15, Leaving Turkey

Things we liked about Turkey:
1) The way men can show affection for each other.
2) Apple tea / Turkish tea.
3) Baklava
4) Peaches
5) The friendliness of the people
6) The accessibility of ancient ruins, that are everywhere, and are casually integrated into everyday life.
7)Public calls to prayer from the mosques.
8)Bread rings and roast corn on the cob peddlers.

We parked ourselves at the pancake shop and talked and ate meat pancakes all day. Geo was at the boat tour place with Ozgur uploading our tip pictures to our web site. We took the night bus to Istanbul 7:00pm to 9:00am
Day 12, Gombe, Islamlar and Elmali

We drove up winding mountain roads, full of hair pin turns and spectacular views of the Mediterranean, valleys and mountain peaks. We stopped in Gombe after 1.5 hour drive and ate grilled goat meat sandwiches (essentially mini hamburgers) at a little restaurant that cooked nothing else. Apparently it’s the local specialty, it was very good.
We continued up the mountain, on our way to the lake with the waterfall. Half way up, we were informed that there had been a rock fall and the road was closed. We stopped and enjoyed the view of the mountain and the herd of goats who were grazing by the mountain stream there.
