Pukaskwa: Swinging Bridge Hike

Well we loaded everyone up and headed to Pukaskwa National Park. Shelly, Joe, Scotty, Robin, Noel, and myself left Marathon around 9:30 am and started the 15 km hike to the swinging bridge along the coastal hiking trail. It was a beautiful sunny day, with a slight breeze when we were in open areas by the lake. The black flies and mosquitoes were brutal from time to time, but with lots of bug spray we managed. There was lots of bear sign on the trail out to the bridge as the bears seem to use the trail as their bathroom. We say several rabbits and a few chipmunks along the way.

One of the most dramatic things about the hike was how low the water levels were at the swinging bridge, with water levels down at least 5 to 6 feet from previous years. Even with the water being so low there was a mist coming off the water at the rapids and falls. There was still a massive of water flowing in the river under the bridge.

A good time was had by all.
