In Phnom Phen

We’re at the fastest Internet place in town (read slow) being eaten alive by little black bugs as we write this, so it will be short…

We’ve spent 3 days in Seim Reap, exploring Ankgor Wat and several other temple ruins. It’s been amazing – it felt like Jack arriving at the top of the beanstalk in the giant’s house and garden… as if we had to tread lightly and with respect for the giant history and sanctity of the place…
Ok – these bugs are driving me nuts, so here’s a point form summary of everything else-
~ went for a massage from blind massures in Siem Reap (war casualties) – amazing
~ visited Aki Ra land mine museum & child amputee / orphan center & school – informative, tragic, hopeful & inspiring to meet the kids and see how they deal with their circumstances (their pet monkey tried to steal my glasses & get into my bag – he’s an orphan to…)
~ experienced a real “wet season” downpour – incredible! All the tourists run for cover, and the Cambodian mothers send their infants out naked in the rain to have a shower…

~went for a “floating village tour” – nothing like the floating villages in Peru. This felt more like voyeurism with boat people, and Western tourists find their pathetic conditions photogenic… uncomfortable experience, but educational
~ visited restaurant run by an orphanage – the proceeds go towards the kids, who perform traditional songs and dances for you as you eat, then invite you up to dance with them. It feels like being a bull in a China shop, but the kids are lots of fun – we laughed like crazy.
Right, we’re out of here before we go mad…
Love to everyone & our doggies…
