Ottawa: Doing The Tourist Thing

Well we were up early today because we had to meet Chris in the Market for breakfast. By the time we found a parking spot (our usual parking spot is not a condo complex) in the Market Chris had already arrived in front of Chapters.
We went off to Zacks for breakfast and had bacon, eggs, and toast and made plans for sight seeing around the Capital Hill area of Ottawa. Chris and I said good by to Noel, who was doing some shopping with Mel (her mom) around town today, and headed do to the Royal Canadian Mint. We reserved a place for the next tour of the Mint which was at 11:30am which was over an 90 minutes away. So Chris and I went to the Art Gallery.
At the National Art Gallery we went through the Canadian artist galleries and say many painting by the Group of Seven. They were nice to see but a bit on the abstract side for my liking. Chris was happy with the gallery. It was now 11:00am and I needed a coffee, so we walked back to the Market and had a lait and relaxed out of the cold.
Next we walked towards the American Embassy and up to the Chateau Laurier Hotel and walked through the lobby of the historic hotel. Then up to Parliament Hill. I showed Chris the Reuteu Cannel were boats could come up from the Ottawa River to Dowes Lake in the summer. We saw the War Memorial and the Eternal Flame and then proceeded to wait in line for 90 min to go up the Peace Tower of the Parliment Building.
I was amazed at the detail and amount of carved stone work on the interior of the Parliament Building. We made it to the top of the Peace Tower and there was a fantastic view of Ottawa and Hull.
About this time we were hungry and went back to the market to have Vietnamese food. After lunch I took Chris through the old market building and he tried some baklava for the first time and really enjoyed it. We also finally got a hold of Cory and were to meet him at the Museum of Civilization in Hull, Quebec. Cory said that he would be about 20 minutes and we waited over an hour and he did not show. Chris and I took turns going through different parts of the museum and looking out for Cory. I say an exhibit on the Dead Sea Scrolls which was amazing and of course the Hida totem poles in the great gallery.
At the end of the day Chris was getting worried about Cory and the people he was staying with because he could not contact them and had no way of getting back into the apartment if I dropped him off. So we went out to Orleans where we stopped off at the Future Shop and picked up a XBox controller for Noel’s dad and stopped off at the house where I was staying. Only problem I don’t have a key and no one was home. Just as we were loosing hope Shannon called and told us where Cory was dropped off and I made arrangements to drop Chris off.
We finally found Cory at the Museum of Man where he had been waiting for about 3 hours for someone to pick him up. I felt so bad for him. Hopefully the next time things will work out better for him and he won’t miss out.
I am very tired now and will call it a day. I think Chris enjoyed himself and saw parts of Ottawa that he will remember.

The weather has been cold here in Ottawa, very windy from time to time throughout the day.
