Hong Kong

We got up early an puttered around the room getting things done. Left hotel around 9 am in search of breakfast. We decided to go to the “Happy Garden Noodles & Congee Kitchen” on Canton Road. Our walk to the kitchen went through Kowloon Park. Today most of the Tia Chi was finished up before we arrived. We tried a different part of the park today and found a series of ponds with water lilies in full bloom. From these pools we followed a man made stream to a water fountain. It was interesting to see so many people just wondering around the park or sitting and enjoying the peaceful surroundings.
From the park we made our way to Canton Road for breakfast. I had Won Ton soup and Noel had a pork soup in a fish base. We also split a serving of spring rolls. The meal was great. Noel was showing the woman at the cash and the waitress the guide book that recommended their restaurant and they were delighted.
Next stop the Star Ferry to [tags]Hong Kong[/tags]. It started raining as soon as we got to the ferry terminal and stopped when we arrived at the Hong Kong side. We are planning to wonder around Soho and Boho (Below Hollywood).

We started by looking around the Prince’s Building. This appears to be where the rich Brit’s go to shop. Then we walked through the narrow streets, window shopping. There were several streets we came across that were selling antiques and ivory. There were carvings in stone, jade, ivory, etc. We saw Mao buttons and a copy of Mao’s Red Book.
Finally we made our way to the Man Mo Temple. This was very interesting, with incenses burning from the ceiling and in large iron pots. The inside of the temple is very small. The heat inside the temple is almost unbearable.
We stopped in a small tea shop to look at clay tea pots, Noel would like to get one. There was an area to have tea so we went through the tea ceremony. It was interesting because there were two posts that the tea is moved to before put into a cup. All the cups are filled with hot water to start to warm up the cups. Then the loose tea is put in the first cup and filled with water, this is poured into the second cup. This is all dumped into a waste pot and the process is started again but this time you can drink the tea.
We took the ferry back to Kowloon and went to Harbor City for a coffee. By this time we were tired and went back to the hotel to rest. I did some laundry while Noel slept.
When we were in Hong Kong we went to two markets, The Cat Street Market and the Western Market. The Cat Street Market was all antiques from China, India and the surrounding countries. The Western Market was very small and contained in an old brick building consisting of three stories. The first floor was made up of small shops selling collectibles from stamps to model buses, second floor was silk and the third floor was a sea food restaurant.
After out snooze we went up to and round the streets of the Temple Street Market. I found the long Mah Jong playing cards I was looking for. We were both getting tired and the crowds of people out was incredible. So we went back to the hotel and called it a day.
