Day 9, Kas and Kalkan

Took dolmus to Kas where we explored ancient Lycian tombs in people’s backyards on mountain sides. Spectacular scenery. Found a few great bakeries, bought Turkish pastries for supper. Went back to catch dolmus, had Turkist tea while we waited. Beautiful children waited on us. Little girl (4 years old) gave us 2 flowers each. Geo tipped the kids 4 times the price of the tea. Their faces literally lit up.

Back on dolmus to Kalkan, described as a “quaint fishing village” in guide book, now an unrelenting tourist trap. However, determined to find a redeeming quality in it, we threw ourselves into its back streets. Beautiful flowering vines on old houses. Nice stone work. Found an old fashioned, hole in the wall made to order tailor shop. Beautiful hand painted silk sarongs.
