Day 7, Pammukale

Up early, took long hot bus ride to Pammukale. Got off bus only to be harassed by hotel hawkers. Arrived at hotel of our choice, hot and tired and frustrated, only to be further frustrated by little man at the front desk who was evasive about room prices. Finally nailed down a price and left for calcium terraces.

Limestone Terraces

Long, hot walk up the terraces, very interesting and beautiful. Currently being restored, but worth seeing none the less.

Reached goal at top of terraces, site of original Turkish / Roman baths that had been destroyed by earthquake in the second century. The spring water still pools there, with beautiful flowering plants growing around it and remains of Roman columns under water. We spent 4 fantastic hours soaking in hot bubbly, Perrier water pools with ancient Roman ruins in them, made the whole day much better.

As we walked back to the hotel from supper, a tractor was driving down the street spraying DDT gas everywhere to kill mosquitos. Very bizarre.
