Day 5, Selçuk & Ephesus
- Comments: No Comments Yet

We had a Turkish breakfast on the roof terrace of the hotel this morning, tea, goat cheese, cucumber, tomatoe, bread, and a hard boiled egg.
We were taken to Ephesus and wandered the site in the sweltering heat for two hours. We took several pictures of the Grand Theater, an outdoor amphitheater that seated 25,000. We also took several pictures of the facade of the former library, then wandered from fountain ruin, to brothel, to hill house to alter.
It was amazing. From the top of the “marble road” you could see the jail where they imprisoned St. John the Baptist, on a mount rising above the grassy swamp which was formerly a harbour. Apparently St. John delivered sermons in the Grand Theater and wrote part of the New Testament here. We didn’t get to the Virgin Mary’s house, it was 9km down the road.
We walked through the Saturday Bazaar, where Geo bought some pistachios, I bought some sour grapes. we were both fascinated by the fruit teas, and we took a picture of a goat in the vegetable stands.
We wandered the streets a bit and took pictures of the storks on top of the old ruins in the center of town. There are loads of cafe’s with nothing but old Turkish men in them, drinking tea and playing backgammon.
