Arriving From Budapest

We were picked up at the airport by “our humble and gracious servant” – a funny little man with a sign with my name on it. He got us a cab, and as we raced through the city. A taxi ride in Istanbul is all that we’d been led to believe it was, way too fast. White knuckle frightening, and we almost killed three people on the way to the hotel from the airport. Note: Do not ride a bike in Istanbul. Incidentally you pay for the taxi ride and the time it takes the taxi to get back to the pick up point in Istanbul, a strange concept.

Our hotel, The Ottoman Guest House, is right beside the Four Seasons. We have a huge room with 3 beds in it (one double), and our own private bath for $30 U.S. per night. The toilet has a home made bidet in it. I’ve got to take a picture!

There are prayer chants from the Blue Mosque that are broadcast on a loud speaker system 5 times a day, just 1.5 blocks from us. It’s very different from what we’re used to.
